Woman, 63, to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for literacy

Martha Gilliland of Tucson, Arizona, is on the verge of fulfilling a longtime dream. And while doing so, she's hoping to help others fulfill theirs. Gilliland, 63, has gone to Africa to climb the continent's highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro. She has turned her climb into a fundraising effort—"To Kilimanjaro for the Right to Read and for Democracy"—"for Literacy Volunteers of Tucson. She left the United States last weekend and her ascent begins tomorrow, June 18, following a gear check. Read her story in The Tucson Citizen online.
