Children as young as two in Great Britain are being given literacy worksheets to fill in, as nurseries come under pressure to meet controversial government targets on reading and writing. The move is being driven by a new "toddlers curriculum," mandatory for all childminders, nurseries and playgroups, which will check children against 500 development milestones and 69 learning goals before they are five.
The Government's Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets a goal for children to read and write before they start reception class, also stating that they should "be interested in and respect different ways of life" and be able to use a computer keyboard. Read more in The Telegraph online.
