Study: Supplemental literacy courses help struggling teen readers

The Institute of Education Sciences has released the first report from MDRC’s Enhanced Reading Opportunities study, which is testing two supplemental literacy courses that aim to improve the reading comprehension skills and school performance of struggling ninth-graders. On average, the programs produced a positive, statistically significant impact on reading comprehension among students. MDRC, founded as the Manpower Demonstration Research Corporation, has been known as MDRC since 2003.
