Soros pledges $US5 million for Liberian education programs

American billionaire George Soros has pledged $US5 million to support education initiatives of Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Soros said his contribution would go toward filling a funding gap under the country's 5-year education plan being spearheaded by UNICEF. Under the plan, US$20 million is being provided by donors, but a US$10 million dollar gap still exists. Soros' contribution will help fill that gap. Soros made the announcement in Brussels, where he delivered a speech to raise funds for the Roma Education Fund, which he supports. Read the article at allAfrica.com.
