Venezuelan “book bank” wins Astrid Lindgren literature award

A “pioneering” not-for-profit Venezuelan institution that has “constantly sought new ways of disseminating books and promoting reading among children” was named winner of the 2007 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. Banco del Libro, which means book bank, was credited for its “enthusiasm, professionalism, closeness to the children and a refreshing lack of bureaucracy,” the jury said.
