Through the Family Literacy Program at Marquette University, 64 elementary school students from Milwaukee area schools come in to the Hartman Literacy and Learning Center at the university for 90 minutes a day, twice a week for 10 weeks, to get help with their reading. They are connected with 19 future teachers, who help the children as part of a practicum meant to prepare them for classroom careers.
