In an interview with The Washington Post five days before the fifth anniversary of the No Child Left Behind law, U.S. Education Secretary Margaret Spellings rejected calls for a major rewrite of the law. Spellings said that she welcomed proposals to "perfect and tweak" NCLB as Congress prepares for what could become a divisive debate on renewal of the landmark education initiative.
