Teacher satisfaction grows, says survey

Over the past two decades, teachers' satisfaction with their careers has increased, according to the 2006 MetLife Survey of the American Teacher: Expectations and Experiences. More than half of the teachers surveyed (56%) report being very satisfied with their careers, as opposed to just 33% in 1986. Despite the increase in job satisfaction, however, one-quarter of the teachers surveyed (27%) say they are likely to leave the profession within the next five years, the same as 20 years ago.
