Web journals and peer review

A growing number of online journals such as PLoS ONE and Philica are publishing research studies with little or no scrutiny by experts in the field, according to an AP article by Alicia Chang appearing on MSNBC.com. Detractors fear that unfiltered research may “create a deluge of junk science,”writes Chang. Supporters maintain that the open review system might accelerate scientific discovery and help detect mistakes or fraud more quickly. For further information, read the full article.
