DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
The International Reading Association, established in 1956 and operating with a $20 million annual budget, seeks a Director of Development to begin November 2005.
The International Reading Association is a professional education non-profit membership organization dedicated to promoting high levels of pre-K to adult literacy with an emphasis on K-12 teachers, researchers, and teacher educators in the United States and throughout the world. The 88,000 members of the Association include classroom teachers, reading specialists, administrators, university faculty, researchers, and librarians. The Association consists of nine divisions dedicated to cooperatively achieving the Associations mission. They include: Meetings & Conferences, Marketing, Publications, Research & Policy, Government Relations, Councils & Affiliates, International Development, Finance & Administration, and the Executive Office.
The Director of Development will have a commitment to the Associations mission, a vision for strengthening and sustaining a membership organization, and a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain partnerships both within and outside of the Association. The Association seeks a successful fundraiser with four to six years experience in a comprehensive development program who can provide leadership and direction to the creation of a sustained effort of identifying, soliciting, involving, and retaining individuals who can contribute significant funds annually to the International Reading Association. This includes the cultivation of leadership donors as well as small and mid-level donors and the development of leadership giving strategies and programs. A solid track record of both high-volume and high-dollar donations is required. While accomplishment in educational fundraising is desirable, the Association is open to exceptional candidates with notable experiences and leadership in other fields. Bachelors degree in liberal arts, marketing or business required. Professional fundraising certification such as, Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE), is desirable. Expected salary is $80,000 per year. Job expected to be headquartered in Newark, DE.
